1. Understanding the Customizer Interface #
The customizer screen is split into two main columns:
Left Column — Settings Panel #
Theme-specific options (colors, layout, typography, images, etc.)
Extra CSS editor
Enable / disable custom CSS
Save, restore, and backup actions
Right Column — Live Preview #
Real Redmine page loaded inside an iframe
Updates instantly as you change settings
Reflects your actual Redmine data and layout
You can resize both columns using the vertical divider.
2. Your First Customization (Example) #
Try this simple test:
Change a primary color (links or buttons)
Watch the preview update instantly
Click Save
Reload any Redmine page in another browser tab
✅ Your changes are now applied globally.
No files were edited manually.
No cache clearing needed.
3. Enabling / Disabling changes made with the Customizer #
At the bottom of the form you’ll find:
“Apply BRT Customizer settings”
✅ Checked → customizations are active
⛔ Unchecked → theme falls back to its original appearance
This allows you to temporarily disable all changes without losing them.
4. What Happens Behind the Scenes? #
BRT Customizer generates CSS dynamically
CSS is injected automatically into Redmine pages
Asset URLs (images, logos, backgrounds) are rewritten safely
Works with both legacy and compiled theme assets (Redmine 6+)
No core files are modified.
5. Next Steps #
Once you’re up and running, you may want to explore:
Custom logos and login backgrounds
Tracker, priority, and status colors
Extra CSS for advanced tweaks
Backup & restore between environments
